Further on Search Engines

I realise that things over time become more commercialised, and the marketplace more consolidated.  However its amazing how many previously free search engines are now "pay to submit" or totally PPC based.

Even in the last 5 months a lot more SEs have switched over.   If this keeps up then the only general true search engines left will be Google, Yahoo and MSN.  Not that I'm anti-PPC - I actually use PPC daily in my webbusinesses.  Bit of a concern though - or maybe just an opportunity to fill a widending gap in the market.

I have seen it mentioned a few times that  the way forward is many niche search engines.   Time will tell if this is so or not - though it is easy to see that its simpler to dominate a niche than compete with the whole 'general' SE market place.  (no I do NOT think its easy to compete with google on that basis - who has access to enough money/bandwidth ton index the billions of pages requried???  And can they give some to me?!

Till next time
